3 Dead, 4 injured in Surat as speeding car strikes them on roadside

Surat: Two people lost their lives and five others were injured when the driver of a speeding Honda City lost control of the steering wheel and struck them. The incident took place on the Mota Varachha Ring Road in the city late last night around 2 am. Two people died on the spot, while five injured individuals were taken to the hospital for treatment. Two of the injured were in serious condition, one of whom succumbed to their injuries today. It may be mentioned that the victims of the accident were sitting on two-wheelers on the side of the ring road.

The deceased are identified as Vian Deveshbhai Vaghani (6), son of Deveshbhai Vaghani, and Sanket Himmatbhai Vavadia (29), who is also the maternal uncle of Vian. Deveshbhai Vaghani has also succumbed to his injuries during the treatment today.

The accused, Jignesh Amritlal Gohil (aged 40), has been arrested by the police. He works as a tailor in Surat and originally hails from Rajpara village of Vallabhipur.

PI A.D. Mahant of Utran Police Station said that the accident was caused by Jignesh Amritlal Gohil, who resides in Star Galaxy of Amroli in the Chhaprabhatha Road Variav area. During the preliminary inquiry, Gohil stated that he was returning from the Ahmedabad civil hospital after inquiring about the condition of a relative suffering from cancer. While passing through the ring road area of Surat, he lost control of the steering wheel due to a sudden tilt, which led to the accident.

The police used a breathalyzer to check whether the accused was intoxicated. Blood samples were also taken, and it was found that Gohil was not intoxicated at the time of the accident. All aspects are still being investigated by the police, and legal action has been taken.

Jignesh Meyani said, “Last night, my two sisters, my two brothers-in-law, my nephew, and my younger sister and brother went to sit on Ring Road. They were all sitting on the side of the road when a driver sped the car over everyone as if he intended to hit them. In this incident, my cousin and a brother-in-law have died, and five people are hospitalized. My other sister and brother-in-law are in serious condition. I demand that such people should be severely punished.”

According to the information received, a car accident took place near Dukhiya Darbar in the area of Mota Varachha Ring Road around two o’clock late at night. The car, which was running at full speed, lost control and hit six people who were sitting on bikes on the side.

Those seriously injured in this accident, one of whom is pregnant, have been shifted to a private hospital in the Varachha area. The driver was arrested by Utran police after being informed about the incident. A case of accidental death has been registered, and further investigation is underway. DeshGujarat
