Residents protest minority family’s housing allotment in Vadodara

Vadodara: Residents of Motnath Residency on the Harani-Sama Link Road are protesting the allotment of a house to a minority family under the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana. They raised slogans like ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Har Har Mahadev’, demanding the cancellation of the allotment.

According to a resident Jitendra Parmar, Motnath Residency comprises 12 towers and 462 houses, with one house (number 204) allotted to a Muslim family, causing discontent among the predominantly Hindu residents. He suggested reallocating the family to a minority area to maintain communal harmony.

Social activist Atul Gamechi highlighted that despite appeals to municipal officials over the past six months, the allotment has not been revoked. Gamechi warned of escalating protests involving local corporators, MLAs, MPs, and possibly the Chief Minister if the allotment is not canceled promptly.

Residents emphasized that out of 462 houses in Motnath Residency, 461 are occupied by Hindu families, with the minority family yet to move in. The situation has stirred anxiety among residents, prompting calls for swift action to revoke the allotment.

The authorities at the residency had submitted a written request to the state government, governor, mayor, municipal commissioner, collector, and police commissioner, but it remained unnoticed. This protest underlined their discontent with Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC)’s decisions and included calls for implementing the Disturbed Areas Act. DeshGujarat
