Ahmedabad: Rajeshbhai Chauhan, a Sanitary Inspector with Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), filed an FIR today at Shahibaug Police Station following an attack during a stray cattle rescue operation. He and his team were conducting a cattle-catching operation in the Sadar Bazar area of Shahibaug, which is declared a ‘cattle-free zone’ by the Ahmedabad City Police Commissioner.

Around 8:00 AM this morning, following a message from the central office, Rajeshbhai, and his team, accompanied by cattle catcher Johnbhai Christian and three unarmed police constables, responded to reports of cows obstructing traffic near Sadar Bazar Bala Hanuman Temple Road. Despite their efforts, the cows fled towards Rabari Vaas upon seeing the team.

Upon reaching Rabari Vas, they encountered resistance from approximately ten to twelve individuals, including Dharmeshbhai Bababhai Rabari and Ajay, who claimed ownership of the cows and obstructed the team’s duties. A confrontation ensued, during which Dharmeshbhai and others attacked the team and labourers with sticks and iron pipes. Nur Sheikh, one of the labourers, sustained injuries to his head, legs, arms, and back, and was taken to the civil hospital.

Following the attack, Rajeshbhai and his team notified the police control room, leading to the arrest of Dharmeshbhai. An FIR has been registered against Dharmeshbhai, Ajay, and four others under various sections of the IPC including 143, 147, 148, 149, 323, 332, 186, and 188.
