Amit Shah reveals why he started growing a beard

Ahmedabad: Union Home Minister Amit Shah today shared the untold story behind his distinctive beard during the inauguration ceremony of Amin PJKP Vidyarthi Bhavan in the city.

While reminiscing about his college days, Shah said, “I came here to study from Mansa and joined the NCC (National Cadet Corps). At that time, Natubhai was our instructor. I did not shave and sported a bearded look. However, Natubhai strongly advocated for a clean-shaven look to maintain discipline.”

“As I did not shave, he gave me the punishment of making four rounds of the Gujarat College ground with a rifle in hand. So, I started coming to college early and completed my four rounds of punishment so that the time of the parade would not get wasted,” Shah added.

“One day, Natubhai and one Gill Saheb asked me why I didn’t shave, since I wasn’t a Sikh, and why I preferred to serve the punishment. I told them that shaving consumed 15-20 minutes of my time, which I could use differently. So, I chose to serve the punishment instead,” the HM added.

Shah also shared how Natubhai taught him to accept whatever situation arises in life with a smile. DeshGujarat
