Bhachau Court grants bail to Kutch CID Head Constable

Kutch: A Bhachau court on Saturday granted bail to CID head constable Nita Chaudhary, who was apprehended last week. Nita was booked along with alleged bootlegger Yuvrajsinh Jadeja for attempting to murder six policemen by trying to run them over with a car while transporting liquor.

On the same day, the police took Chaudhary to Abu Road town in Rajasthan, where she allegedly purchased the liquor, but they made no progress in the investigation as the liquor shops were closed.

Chaudhary was granted bail in the attempted murder case on Wednesday but was re-arrested under the Prohibition Act before her release. On Thursday, the police requested seven-day custody for her and Jadeja, but the court granted only two days. On Saturday, the police did not seek an extension of their remand, and Chaudhary’s lawyer filed for bail. They argued that the seized liquor consignment was small and that the relevant sections of the Gujarat Prohibition Act only carry a maximum punishment of up to three years. Bhachau Court, after hearing all the arguments, gave her bail.

Kutch East SP Sagar Bagmar said that Chaudhary was taken to Abu Road on the Rajasthan-Gujarat border on Saturday. “In her statement, she claimed to have purchased the liquor from Abu Road. However, liquor shops on Abu Road have been closed since June 30 due to permit issues, so our team couldn’t verify the details in her presence.”

The police have moved the session court in Bhachau, seeking cancellation of the bail granted to Chaudhary, who has been suspended from service by the state Home Department. DeshGujarat
