Ahmedabad: The standing committee of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Thursday approved podium parking in 22 buildings, with the highest number, 12, located in the northwest zone. This marks the first time the AMC has permitted podium parking in the city.

Committee chairman Devang Dani stated that the top level of podium parking will be open to the sky and used for landscaping, common plots, and recreational activities.

“Podium parking will be allowed for buildings on plots larger than 4,000 square meters and taller than 25 meters. It can span multiple levels and is more economical than underground parking,” Dani added.

The state government approved podium parking in its 2019 development plan. The 2019 state government notification includes guidelines stating that podiums will not be allowed in front or margin spaces of buildings and will require fire safety clearance. DeshGujarat
