After backlash over MBBS fees, GMERS drops plan to hike PG course fees
July 17, 2024
Gandhinagar: Following public criticism over increased undergraduate course fees across its 13 medical colleges, GMERS (Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society) has opted not to pursue similar fee hikes for its postgraduate courses.
It was reported that GMERS had planned to raise postgraduate course fees by 65-70%. The current annual fees ranging from Rs 6 lakh to 14 lakh were expected to be increased to between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 24 lakh.
According to a news report, Health Department Secretary Dhananjay Dviwedi stated that he was unaware of any proposed increase in postgraduate fees by GMERS.
GMERS had announced the hike in MBBS fees on June 29th, which was subsequently met with widespread criticism, leading the government to roll back the hike on Tuesday. DeshGujarat
