Ukai dam water 1 m below rule level; 11,000 cusecs discharge in river Tapi against 69,000 inflow
August 04, 2024
Surat: Finally water is being released from South Gujarat’s largest Ukai dam into river Tapi. However not in significant volume. As of 6 pm on Sunday, 11,256 cusecs water was being released from Ukai dam in river Tapi against inflow of 69,537 cusecs from upstream.
The dam – in which full reservoir level is 105.16 m – can be filled only upto 102.11 m level before 1st September, as it is the mandated rule level for this period. The present water level is 101.17 m. The dam is 70.98 percent full.
The level of water so far has been below the rule level and therefore release of water to river Tapi didn’t happen. Smaller size of 600 cusecs water was already being released to canal from Ukai dam, but today over 11,000 cusecs water was being released to river bed towards Surat apparently to estimate that more inflow will come to Ukai dam from upstream and eventually it will be filled upto the rule level in coming days. The discharge towards river started at 4 pm on Sunday.
Mewnehile at 6 pm on Sunday, Damanganga witnessed over 64,000 cusecs inflow and over 79,000 cusecs outflow. In another news, Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam crossed 60% water level mark and wa at 60.49% filled with level at 124.44 m and continuous inflow of 1,34,553 cusecs. Outflow was 9995 in river and 8488 in canal. DeshGujarat
