Gandhinagar: Water level in South Gujarat’s largest and Gujarat’s second largest Ukai dam is racing towards the rule level. Mandated rule level at Ukai is 102.11 m before 1st September. The level at 11.00 am on 6 August today was 101.78 m. 24 hours ago it was 101.39 m. If huge inflow which is nearly 98,000 cusecs at present continues, the rule level will be achieved in the next couple of day. Once the rule level is achieved, the discharge in downstream begins.

Presently the discharge in downstream towards Surat is limited to around 11,000 cusecs in river just for hydro power generation, in addition to routine 600 cusecs discharge in canals. The dam is 74.94 percent full. Once the rule level is achieved, the discharge in downstream river bed shall be in matching with the inflow from upstream.

In another development, Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam is over 63% full with the level at 12.85 m at 11 am today. The inflow is over 64,000 cusecs against merely 638 cusecs outflow, meaning the dam is being filled with water.

Good inflow and levels at Ukai, Narmada, Damanganga and Karjan on one side. The other important dams are not as rich. Dharoi for Ahmedabad is less than 39% full Dantiwada or banaskantha less than 22% full, Shetrunji for Bhavnagar is less than 39% full. Kadana, a very important dam and third largest in Gujarat is 37.35% full.
