Mount Carmel School building in Navrangpura structurally weak: GERI Report
August 07, 2024
Ahmedabad: The building of Mount Carmel School in the Navrangpura area has been found to be structurally weak according to a report from the Gujarat Engineering Research Institute (GERI).
Ahmedabad DEO Rohit Chowdhury said that the school management had claimed the building was not fit to run classes. Following this, GERI conducted a structural inspection of the 100-year-old school building, which has now been found to be 89% weak according to the report. The report has been sent to the Executive Engineer. The school has also been instructed to prepare for a change of venue if necessary. The final decision regarding the school will be made based on the instructions given by the Executive Engineer.
Last year, the school management announced that due to the unsafe condition of the building, it would relocate approximately 1,800 students to two different schools for the 2024 academic year. This decision led to protests by the parents of the students. Subsequently, the DEO intervened and ordered a structural strength test of the building. DeshGujarat
