Traffic Jam on Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway no. 48

Vadodara: A traffic jam of around 5 kilometers occurred today near Jambuva Bridge on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai National Highway. Vehicles were stranded for hours and moving at a snail’s pace due to the potholes on the road. Such traffic jams have become frequent on this stretch in recent months, causing significant distress to motorists.

Additionally, residents of nearby societies are also facing considerable difficulties in commuting due to the traffic congestion. The daily traffic issues have become a major source of frustration for everyone involved.

A local resident mentioned that the traffic jam issue has persisted for a long time, primarily caused by potholes that form on the bridge during the monsoon season. He stated that he has written to the National Highway Authority about the problem and received a response indicating that recommendations have been made to widen 4 to 5 narrow bridges from Bharuch to Vadodara. However, there is no clear timeline for when work on the Jambuva Bridge will begin.

He added that the traffic jam is a daily occurrence, and despite calls to the traffic branch, the response is often slow, leading to poor traffic management and inconvenience for commuters. Since this bridge is a crucial link between the city and the Por area, many people rely on it for their daily commute. There is a strong demand for the bridge work to start and be completed as soon as possible.

The Jambuva Bridge is part of one of the busiest highways in the country, connecting Ahmedabad to Mumbai via Vadodara and Surat. One of the major reasons for the congestion is the white-topping work being carried out at various places on the highway, where the NHAI is converting the asphalt road into an RCC road. However, the traffic jams have become a regular occurrence on the highway, with people turning to social media to highlight the condition of the road and the ongoing traffic issues.

On user today tweeted, “Frequent trafic jam at Jambuva bridge, Vadodara. Since long we are observing the same but there are no action taken till date. The fuel cost a lot to public and offcorse it is the waste of natural resoouces”

Another one shared a video of potholes ridden road and wrote, “Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway-48 near Umbhel Gaon Are vehicles charged toll tax for driving in such potholes? Very embarrassing. The road was made into six lanes but most of the bridges were still left narrow!Very reprehensible”

Another user in a reply to the tweet of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari wrote, “Sir, on the NH48 there is always heavy traffic on Por bridge and Jambuva bridge. The daily travelers and local vehicles hence don’t mind right / wrong sides / lanes and move forward in any possible manner. Is this also not acceptable?”

Meanwhile, another user who also acknowledged that work is ongoing said, “Sir, I also traveled on #NH48 last week, and there is ongoing work, which is causing some issues for people. We all need to stay calm and be patient. #NHAI #NH48″
