Rajkot: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat today arrested Anilkumar Becharbhai Maru, a Class One officer and in-charge Chief Fire Officer of Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC), in connection with a bribery case involving ₹1,80,000.
According to the details of the case, the complainant, who was involved in fire safety fitting work, approached the accused Chief Fire Officer to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the work completed in a building. However, the accused, Anilkumar, demanded a bribe of ₹3,00,000 for processing the NOC. The complainant initially paid ₹1,20,000 and was instructed to provide the remaining ₹1,80,000 within four to five days.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant reported the incident to the Jamnagar ACB. A trap was set based on the complaint, during which the Chief Fire Officer was caught red-handed accepting the ₹1,80,000 bribe. The officer was apprehended on the spot for misusing his position as a public servant. The ACB continues to investigate the case. DeshGujarat
