Unit selling unlicensed cosmetic products on Amazon, Flipkart busted in Surat

Surat: The Food and Drug Regulatory Authority today conducted a raid at two units in Mota Varachha and Punagam area of the city, which were manufacturing various cosmetic products without a license. A total of nine samples of the suspicious cosmetic products have been taken and sent for forensic testing, and counterfeit cosmetics worth Rs 23.70 lakh have been seized, said Food and Drug Regulatory Commissioner Dr. H. G. Koshia.
Providing further details, the Commissioner stated that authorities raided Smit Enterprises, located at G-2, Underground, Atlanta Mall, Sudama Chowk, Mota Varachha, Surat. It was found that this entity was using the name, address, and license number of another company without permission to manufacture cosmetics. The owner of Smit Enterprises, Himmat Vithalbhai Wadalia, has been arrested, and products worth Rs. 4.30 lakh have been seized. Four samples have been sent for testing.
Additionally, a large quantity of cosmetic products with different brand labels was found by the team today at CK Corporation, Punagam. The unit was using the name, address, and license number of Presheel Laboratory of Vadodara to manufacture cosmetics without their knowledge. The cosmetics were being manufactured under new brands and sold on online platforms like Amazon and Flipkart. Nikulbhai Bhimjibhai Rukhi has been arrested for running this factory, and goods worth around Rs 20 lakh have been seized, with five samples sent for forensic testing.
He further stated that a total of nine samples of suspicious cosmetic products have been sent to the government laboratory in Vadodara for analysis. The investigation is ongoing, and further legal action will be taken. DeshGujarat
