5 more Suman Schools to come up in Surat

Surat: The Standing Committee of the city civic body approved a proposal on August 16th to set up five additional Suman schools for students in grades 9 to 12, starting from the next academic year. The Surat Municipal Corporation is establishing these schools due to the addition of new areas in the city. These schools will benefit around 1,200 students.

It is learned that 2 out of the 5 schools will be located in the Sachin-Pali area, while the remaining three will be set up in Sarthana, Katargam, and Limbayat.

SMC Standing Committee chairman Rajan Patel said, “We have given the green light to establish five new Suman schools in the newly added city areas. The sites for these schools have been identified, and the ground-breaking ceremonies will take place soon.”

Suman schools were initially established in 1999 to reduce the dropout rate among students after grade 7. Later, classes 11 and 12 were introduced in the year 2022. In these schools, education is free for girls, while boys in grades 9 and 10 are charged Rs 200, and those in grades 11 and 12 are charged Rs 1,000.

The schools offer instruction in Gujarati, Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, and English. Currently, more than 14,100 students are enrolled in 23 Suman schools across Surat. DeshGujarat
