Gujarat Assembly Speaker suspends Congress MLAs for a day

Gandhinagar: The Speaker of the Gujarat Assembly today suspended 11 Congress MLAs for a day after they staged a walkout during the session.

Following the walkout, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rushikesh Patel moved a motion to suspend all 11 Congress MLAs for their behavior, despite repeated calls to maintain decorum. The suspension was approved by a majority vote, though four Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs did not support the motion.

After the vote, the Speaker suspended all 11 Congress MLAs for a day, citing their disruption of the proceedings with slogans and placards. The Congress currently holds 12 seats in the Assembly, but MLA Jignesh Mevani was absent on Thursday.

Congress Legislature Party leader Amit Chavda claimed that the party had submitted 12 short-notice questions before the session began, but none were selected for discussion. He pointed out that the two short-notice questions listed for discussion were from BJP MLAs and expressed frustration at not being informed why their questions were rejected. Chavda demanded an explanation from the BJP government and its ministers. DeshGujarat
