September 07, 2024
Jamnagar: The annual Open Saurashtra ladoo eating competition was held today in the city on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, in which a total of 49 contestants participated in three different categories, eating a total of 288 ladoos. In the men’s section, Nanjibhai emerged as the winner with 12 ladoos of 100 grams each. The first place in the women’s section went to a contestant who ate 9 ladoos, while the top child contestant ate 5 ladoos.
Giving more details about this competition, Vijaybhai Trivedi said that ladoo is an integral part of the Indian food system. In today’s era of fast food, people, especially the youth, are alienated from such clean and healthy food. With the hope of re-adopting the Indian food system, the Brahm Social Group has been organizing a competition on Ganesh Chaturthi for the last 14 years to eat ladoo (Modak), and contestants from all over Saurashtra participate enthusiastically.
The ladoos prepared for the contestants in the ladoo-eating competition are of 100 grams each and made in pure ghee. In addition to ghee, dry fruits are used in the ladoo. Contestants are also served dal alongside the ladoos during the competition.
In the male category, 33 contestants participated, while 6 contestants entered the women’s section, and 10 contestants participated in the children’s section.
