Ahmedabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Gujarat has nabbed a class-one officer in a bribery case. The officer, Kamalkant Prabhudayal Meena, is the Assistant Director at the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC). He was apprehended after receiving a bribe of Rs. 3 lakh at the ESIC Gujarat headquarters on Ashram Road in Ahmedabad.
According to the ACB, ESIC had issued a notice concerning ESI money amounting to over Rs. 46 lakh. The businessman who received the notice had a valid case and did not owe any money. He went to meet Kamalkant Meena with all required documents. Meena initially demanded Rs. 4 lakh but, after negotiation, agreed to Rs. 3 lakh. Meena also assured the businessman that the payable amount would be reduced to Rs. 2 lakh from Rs. 46.29 lakh once the bribe money was received.
Since the businessman was unwilling to pay a bribe, he contacted the ACB, which then set up a trap. Mina was caught after accepting the Rs. 3 lakh bribe.
Further when checked Kamalkant Meena’s residence at B203 Suryam Greens society in Vastral area of Ahmedabad, the ACB said it found cash of Rs. 4.30 lakh and silver items worth over Rs. 42,000. ACB has seized these items. DeshGujarat
