Gujarat govt to give concession in IVF rates for cattle; Pilot project in 4 districts

Banaskantha: The Gujarat government today announced that cattle farmers will receive financial assistance of Rs. 5,000 when their cattle conceive through the use of in vitro fertilization (IVF) techniques.

Providing more details, Animal Husbandry Minister Mr. Raghavji Patel stated “the Gujarat government is actively promoting advanced technology to achieve a sustainable increase in milk production through animal breeding. Similar to the assistance provided for sexed semen doses, the government will now offer Rs. 5,000 in financial support. This assistance will be provided to farmers in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Mehsana, and Anand districts during the pilot phase, with plans to expand the scheme to other districts based on demand and necessity.”

The minister also highlighted that under the “National Gokul Mission” implemented by the Central Government, farmers who successfully conceive cattle through IVF technology receive Rs. 5,000 assistance from the Centre, Rs. 4,890 from district cooperative milk societies, and Rs. 4,890 from GCMMF, against a total expenditure of Rs. 24,780.

“With this important decision by the state government, livestock farmers who initially had to spend Rs. 24,780 will only need to pay Rs. 5,000 after receiving a total assistance of Rs. 19,780 from the Government of India, Government of Gujarat, District Cooperative Milk Producers Union, and GCMMF,” he added.

Discussing the advantages of IVF technology, the minister added that female cattle usually give birth to one calf per year after reaching maturity. However, through in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer technology, it is possible to obtain 12 to 20 calves per year from high-genetic-quality, high-milk-producing female cattle. DeshGujarat
