Gujarat govt plans to carve some new districts; Ahmedabad city may be designated as separate district
September 25, 2024
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat government is considering splitting the Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Kutch, Mehsana, and Banaskantha districts to create around four to five new districts.
There are plans to designate Ahmedabad city as a separate district and to form a new district in Viramgam, which would be derived from parts of the current Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar districts. Additionally, a new district may be formed by merging parts of Kutch and Banaskantha.
The government is also contemplating dividing the vast Kutch district into East and West Kutch. Reports indicate that there are discussions about declaring Vadnagar, the hometown of the Prime Minister, as a new district, which would be carved out from Mehsana.
The last time new districts were formed in Gujarat was in 2013, when seven new districts were established. The government is now reassessing other large districts for potential division to improve governance. DeshGujarat
