List of places in Gujarat that received 1 inch or more rainfall in 24 hours
September 28, 2024
Ahmedabad: As many as 108 talukas of Gujarat received 1 inch or more rainfall during 24 hours ending at 6 am today, as per the data available from the state government. Sagbara, Lakhtar, Junagadh, Junagadh city, and Umarpada top the list, followed by Dhoraji, Manavdar, Mangrol, Porbandar, and Upleta. All these talukas had over or around 100 mm of rainfall.
The list shows that yesterday’s round of rainfall has affected parts of the Central, South Gujarat, and Saurashtra regions. Meanwhile, Ahemdabad, the largest city of the state, got little less than an inch of rain with 23 mm (0.9 inch) of rainfall, but Surat city got 29 mm (1.1 inch) of rain during the 24 hours that ended at 6 am today.
Farmers in Saurashtra were counting on another spell of rain to save their standing crops, especially groundnut, their main crop. Just a few days ago, the State government had extended agricultural power supply to 10 hours to help protect these crops. Within a month, the State’s power demand had doubled ahead of this latest rainfall, which is expected to be the last of the 2024 monsoon.
The recent rains have been a relief, as they are also helping to fill dams that hadn’t yet reached full capacity. However, there are concerns about whether the rain will stop in time for Navratri, which begins on October 3rd. DeshGujarat
