Surat: A police complaint has been lodged against Naresh Rana, a resident of Soniya Sangeeta Apartment in Chota Bazar area of Surat, for allegedly spreading a derogatory social media post targeting ward number 13 corporators of Surat Municipal Corpotion(SMC). The complaint was filed by Sanjay Dalal, a corporator of SMX, after the post gained traction on WhatsApp and was subsequently covered in local newspapers. The accused is BJP cadre only. He is advocate and Gaurakshak.
Details of the Post
According to the complaint in Athwa police station, the viral post, attributed to Kaushik Rana, included photographs of ward number 13 corporators and a message criticizing their inability to construct proper roads during major festivals such as Ganesh Utsav and Navratri Mahotsav.
The post read: “It is our humble request to respect our votes. Roads couldn’t be constructed during Ganesh Utsav, and now it’s Navratri Mahotsav. If you can ensure the roads are built, we thank you. Otherwise, the question arises whether we are born to burn effigies of Ravana or those of corporators(on Dussehra festival). We can’t tolerate this anymore.”
The post sparked public debate and drew attention to the poor road conditions in the area.
Complaint and Police Action
Sanjay Dalal, along with other corporators mentioned in the post, deemed the content defamatory and derogatory. The complaint alleges that the accused deliberately spread the post on social media and shared it with newspapers to amplify its reach and damage the reputation of the corporators.
The police have registered the complaint and initiated an investigation into the matter. DeshGujarat
