Bhavnagar: An inmate of Bhavnagar District Jail was found to have concealed a three-inch mobile phone in his rectum. Jail authorities confirmed the device’s presence after conducting sonography and X-ray scans of his abdomen.
On Wednesday, jail staff received a tip-off that Ravi Bariya (33), a rape accused, had smuggled a mobile phone and charger into the facility. A search of his barrack revealed a charger hidden in a pit, but no phone was found. Suspecting its whereabouts, authorities took Bariya to Sir T Hospital on December 3, where an X-ray confirmed the phone’s location.
Later, when Bariya relieved himself, a mobile phone with a battery, wrapped in plastic, was retrieved. However, no SIM card was found in the device. A jail official filed an FIR with Nilambaug police under BNS Section 223 and relevant sections of the Prisons Act. Investigations are also underway to determine how the phone was smuggled into the jail. DeshGujarat
