Fake Telegram account of GPSC chairman attempts to dupe citizens via Ponzi scheme

Ahmedabad: A fake Telegram account using the name and photograph of former IPS officer and current GPSC Chairman Hasmukh Patel to promote a Ponzi scheme on social media has come to light. The scheme falsely claims to quadruple investments in a short period.

In a social media post, the retired IPS officer stated, “A complaint has been filed at Gandhinagar Sector 21 Police Station against the individual who created a fake Telegram account using information from my Twitter account.”

The fraudulent account on Telegram used Patel’s identity to post misleading advertisements promoting a “one-for-four” scheme. This new modus operandi by scammers involves creating fake social media profiles and posting deceptive offers to lure victims. Police have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators behind this fraudulent activity.

Youth leader Yuvrajsinh Jadeja brought attention to the matter on his social media, cautioning the public: “Beware of scammers. Fraudsters are misusing the name and photo of former Gujarat Police Recruitment Chairman and current GPSC Chairman, ex-IPS Hasmukh Patel, to promote fake schemes on Telegram. Stay alert and stay safe.”

Patel, known for his distinguished career, has served in prominent roles, including SP in Surat, Porbandar, and Bhavnagar Railways. He has also held significant responsibilities in the Anti-Corruption Bureau and State Monitoring Cell. DeshGujarat
