Nagpur cop held for framing banker with live cartridges in Surat

Surat: The city police arrested a Nagpur-based policeman for allegedly planting two live 7.62mm cartridges of an SLR (Self-Loading Rifle) in the storage compartment (dikki) of a scooter belonging to a regional bank manager. The accused reportedly took this step out of anger over an alleged affair between the banker and his wife, who is also a bank officer.

According to investigators, the policeman had tried to persuade the 36-year-old banker to end the relationship but resorted to planting cartridges when his efforts failed. He handed the live SLR cartridges to an accomplice, who placed them in the scooter. Acting on a tip-off, Umra police found the cartridges in the scooter parked in the basement of the banker’s office on Ghoddod Road.

After questioning the banker, who denied owning the cartridges, the police uncovered the affair. The accused policeman was apprehended at Surat railway station. During interrogation, he confessed to orchestrating the incident to “teach a lesson.” Both he and his wife, who works at a bank branch in Piplod, were questioned separately. Legal proceedings under the Arms Act have been initiated. DeshGujarat
