Villagers call for halting Delhi-Mumbai Expressway work over crop damage in Dahod

Dahod: A meeting of representatives from 14 villages was held at Zalod in Dahod district of Central Gujarat regarding the ongoing Delhi-Mumbai Expressway construction. A decision was taken to stop the construction work from Monday.

Those leading the meeting claimed that the highway’s height blocked rainwater on both sides, preventing its flow, which caused crop failure. The company involved in the construction of the highway and the National Highway Authority have both refused to pay for damages to crops despite repeated representations and surveys.

The villagers then made a representation before the Prant Officer, demanding two quintals each of wheat, maize, and rice per affected family as compensation. With no response to their demand, the locals held a meeting and decided to block the highway construction work. The call for the highway work-blocking programme was given for Monday, December 16, at Vasti Primary School. DeshGujarat
