AMC eases process for minor changes to birth certificates
December 19, 2024
Ahmedabad: Amdavadis no longer need to submit affidavits to add ‘bhai’ or ‘kumar’ to the father’s name on birth certificates.
This clarification was provided during a meeting of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) standing committee on Tuesday, where amendments to birth certificates were discussed. An official stated that no affidavit would be required for changes in the eKYC of birth certificates, including minor modifications such as adding ‘bhai’ or ‘kumar’ to the father’s name or rearranging the surname.
Previously, the AMC received 50 applications daily for such amendments, but this number has surged to 500, causing long queues at the office. The official noted that while affidavits are unnecessary for these changes, applicants often submit them when delegating the task to others.
Additionally, the civic body has announced that people will be able to submit applications for changes to birth certificates at urban health centers and civic centers. This decision comes after over 60,000 amendment applications were received in just a month. DeshGujarat
