MSU VC faces ABVP protest over indecisiveness regarding convocation ceremony

Vadodara: Students who completed their education at Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU) in Vadodara are up in arms over the continuous delay in the announcement of their convocation ceremony. On Wednesday, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a prominent student organization, staged a dharna outside the university’s head office to protest the indecisiveness and inaction of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Vijaykumar Srivastav.

The issue revolves around the Vice Chancellor’s prolonged wait for an undisclosed dignitary to serve as the chief guest for the convocation function. Sources suggest that while the Vice Chancellor has invited a prominent figure, the identity of this dignitary remains a mystery, with no confirmation of the date for the ceremony. As a result, students who have already paid their fees and are eagerly awaiting their formal degrees have been left in limbo.

The Vice Chancellor’s reluctance to either expedite a response from the dignitary or consider alternative guests has raised concerns among students. With the end of the academic year approaching and the term of Prof. Srivastav also nearing its close, frustration is mounting.

ABVP, which had previously issued a 48-hour ultimatum for the convocation date announcement, has expressed deep dissatisfaction over the lack of action. The delay has caused significant inconvenience, particularly for students and their families, who need to make travel arrangements well in advance. Without the convocation date, booking tickets for travel has become a logistical nightmare for many.

In response to the ongoing uncertainty, ABVP members staged a peaceful protest at the university’s head office, accompanied by chanting of Ram Dhun, demanding immediate clarification from the Vice Chancellor’s office.

As the situation remains unresolved, students continue to voice their frustrations, with many questioning the administration’s priorities in addressing their long-awaited convocation.

It is worth noting that the convocation ceremony is typically held before the end of September each year. However, with December now nearing its end, there has been no word on the event. In a significant development, the father of an MBBS graduate has approached the Gujarat High Court, as his daughter is facing difficulties in securing admission to a foreign university due to the absence of her formal degree certificate. The concerned parent has reportedly reached out to multiple authorities, including the college dean, faculty dean, registrar, and the Vice Chancellor. He has also escalated the matter to higher offices in Delhi and Gandhinagar in an effort to resolve the issue. Thousands of such students are waiting for much delayed convocation to take place, so that they can get their degrees. DeshGujarat
