Ahmedabad: Reacting to the attempts to create controversy by a section of the media and left-leaning ecosystem over the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) event at the venue, which is Gujarat Vidyapith, the RSS today in a statement said that the scheduled event is going to be held over five themes, and those trying to create controversy should say which of these themes, if any, contradict Gandhi’s philosophy. And which of them is inappropriate for a prestigious institution like Gujarat Vidyapith?

Gujarat Vidyapith, established by Mahatma Gandhi, will witness a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) event on its campus this Sunday as part of the RSS’ centenary celebrations. Invitations have already been sent for the event, marking the first RSS event to be held at this university.

Following media reports about the event, the RSS issued a clarification regarding the “Samaj Shakti Sangam” event scheduled for December 22, 2024, at Gujarat Vidyapith. The event is being organized by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Naranpura, Karnavati.

In an official statement, the organization said, “The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is nearing its 100th year of existence. As part of this milestone, the RSS is organizing ‘Sajjan Shakti Sangam’ programs across various districts of Gujarat, bringing together eminent personalities from society. This event, set to take place at Gujarat Vidyapith, is part of that series.”

The statement further elaborated, “The RSS has conducted several similar programs at various levels and locations over the years to consolidate the virtuous forces within society. For example, a program celebrating Narada Jayanti was previously held by Vishva Samvad Kendra at the ‘Karma Café,’ operated by Navjivan Trust. Additionally, Mahatma Gandhi himself visited an RSS camp in Wardha and praised the organization’s work. The RSS is not an organization apart from society; it is a collective of society itself.”

As part of its centenary celebrations, the RSS seeks to promote five key themes in collaboration with society, which will form the core of the program at Gujarat Vidyapith: social harmony, environmental conservation, family awareness, civic duties, and an indigenous lifestyle.

“Which of these themes, if any, contradict Gandhi’s philosophy? And which of them is inappropriate for a prestigious institution like Gujarat Vidyapith?” the statement questioned.

Vijya Thaker, Prachar Pramukh of Gujarat Prant, added, “I believe that the prejudice held by certain individuals against the RSS should be dispelled. Let us pray to God for this. It is also clarified that the necessary permissions for this program have been obtained from the institution.” DeshGujarat
