Ichhapore Police Station in Surat awarded as India’s best by Home Ministry

Surat: The Ichhapore Police Station in Surat has been recognised as the best police station in India by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The award was presented to Ichhapore Police Station by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the DGP Conference held in Bhubaneswar. The station was honoured for its exceptional performance in law enforcement, innovative practices, citizen collaboration, and effective use of modern technology.
In a nationwide survey conducted by the Ministry’s Modernisation Division, Ichhapore Police Station stood out on several parameters. Gujarat’s Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, and Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot also congratulated the police team on their accomplishment.
Expressing gratitude, Inspector A.C. Gohil of Ichhapore Police Station said, “This award is not just for me or my team but reflects the dedication and hard work of the entire Gujarat Police force. It emphasises the importance of police-public cooperation in maintaining law and order. Our success lies in technological modernisation, citizen participation, and commitment to public service.”
Gohil further credited the state government’s initiative, ‘Teen Vaat Amari, Teen VaaTamari,’i’ for increasing public awareness and reducing the gap between citizens and police. He added that this recognition serves as motivation for the police force to ensure enhanced public safety and service.
Key achievements that led to the award
- Crime prevention and detection: Achieved a detection rate of 79%-83% in property-related crimes between 2022 and 2024.
- Citizen engagement and public trust: Installed over 180 CCTV cameras in collaboration with the community under the Vishwas Project.
- Women and child safety: Organised self-defence programs and cybercrime awareness campaigns.
- Modern technology adoption: Successfully digitised all station records for transparency and efficiency.
- Outstanding operations: Solved truck theft cases and rigorously enforced prohibition laws.
