ACB Gujarat books head constable, TRB jawan in bribe case after decoy trap

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today booked two personnel from the “M” Traffic Division in Ahmedabad city for accepting a bribe of ₹200 during a decoy operation conducted on December 21, 2024.

The accused, identified as Head Constable Dasharathbhai Ramlal Patni and TRB Jawan Ashok Kumar Chaturbhai Pagi, were stationed near Shastri Bridge on the Narol-Sarkhej Road. Acting on a tip-off, the ACB team conducted a decoy operation after receiving complaints that traffic personnel were stopping vehicles on various pretexts, including license checks, seatbelt violations, and PUC compliance, and demanding bribes ranging from ₹100 to ₹2,000 to avoid issuing memos.

During the operation, TRB jawan Ashok Kumar Pagi was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of ₹200 from the decoy, while Head Constable Dasharathbhai Patni, after suspecting the ACB trap, fled the location. The entire bribe amount was recovered on the spot.

The ACB has registered a case and is investigating further to uncover the extent of corruption in the traffic division. DeshGujarat
