Sabarmati Parcel Blast Case: Arrested main accused learned it online

Ahmedabad: The city police arrested the prime suspect in the Sabarmati parcel blast case late on Saturday night, following an explosion that left three people injured. Rupen Barot, 44, a resident of Godavari Apartments in D-Cabin, was apprehended for allegedly learning to make bombs and homemade pistols online. Barot, who is seeking revenge on Baldev Sukhadia, a colleague of his estranged wife Hetal, and her father and brother, blamed them for his separation from his wife.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Bharat Rathod confirmed that after the parcel exploded at Sukhadia’s house in Sabarmati on Saturday morning, Gaurav Gadhavi was arrested at the scene. Police later tracked Barot and his associate, Rohan Raval, 21, using technical surveillance, and the pair were arrested that same night.

Barot had spent the past three to four months learning how to create bombs and weapons online, intending to kill Sukhadia and his in-laws in an effort to separate his wife from her family. Barot and Raval learned to make remote-controlled bombs using materials like sulphur powder, charcoal, gunpowder from firecrackers, and blades, as well as how to build homemade pistols.

The suspects had also planned to target Barot’s father-in-law and brother-in-law in a similar manner. Police found two live bombs in a car while tracking the suspects, which were safely defused by the bomb disposal team. A homemade pistol was also recovered, along with materials used for making explosives, five live cartridges, four high-voltage batteries, three incomplete homemade pistols, and other related items. Barot was subsequently named in a second FIR filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Arms Act, and Explosive Substances Act. DeshGujarat
