Ahmedabad: Khokhra police detained three more individuals on Wednesday in connection with the vandalism of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s bust earlier this week. The incident occurred early on Monday at Jayantilal Vakil Chawl, opposite KK Shastri College, and led to widespread protests.
The police carried out a crime scene reconstruction on Wednesday morning with the two previously arrested suspects, Mehul Thakor (31) and Bhola Thakor (20), both residents of Jugaldas Chawl near Madhavpura.
ACP I Division Krunal Desa stated, “We have detained three more individuals. If their involvement is confirmed, they will be arrested soon. However, we believe they played a role in the crime.”
The Khokhra police have charged the suspects under Section 196 and Section 298 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) Act and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Protests subsided after a new bust was installed at the original site. Police investigations revealed that the suspects had an ongoing dispute with residents of Jayantilal Vakil Chawl and carried out the act after drinking alcohol on Sunday night. DeshGujarat
