ICG rescues 9 crew members from sunken vessel 311 km off Porbandar

Ahmedabad: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Thursday rescued nine crew members from the Indian vessel MSV Tajdar-e-Haram, which sank in the North Arabian Sea due to rough seas and flooding.

The rescue operation, carried out under challenging conditions, was closely coordinated with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centres (MRCCs) in Mumbai and Karachi, according to Coast Guard officials.

The mechanized sailing vessel, which had departed from Mundra and was en route to Socotra, Yemen, sent out a distress signal detected by an ICG Dornier aircraft during a routine surveillance mission. This prompted immediate action by MRCC Mumbai and the ICG regional headquarters (north-west) in Gandhinagar.

ICG ship Shoor, already on patrol in the area, was redirected to the location, approximately 311 km west of Porbandar, within Pakistan’s search and rescue region. MRCC Pakistan was also alerted to notify mariners in the vicinity. After an extensive search, the crew, who had abandoned the sinking dhow and taken shelter in a liferaft, were located and rescued by 4 pm. The rescued crew members received medical assistance onboard and were reported to be in good health. They were later transported to Porbandar harbour by Shoor. DeshGujarat
