45-day awareness drive for helmets, FIR against public spitters in Surat in new year

Surat: A meeting was held at the Circuit House in the Athwalines area with the Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, city police officials, Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) officials, and RTO officials to discuss ongoing work and further plans of action to maintain law and order in the city. Among the two important decisions made during the meeting, the first is that an awareness drive regarding helmets will be conducted, including in schools and colleges. The second decision is that the police will file FIRs against people found spitting pan or tobacco in public.

Addressing the media after the meeting, City Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot said, “A meeting was held under the chairmanship of MoS Home regarding traffic management in the city with the mayor, deputy mayor, senior officials of the corporation, senior police officials, and the district collector present. One of the issues is that some people do not follow traffic rules and break signals, endangering their own lives as well as others’. Legal action will be taken against such offenders for rash and negligent driving. Offenses will also be registered against people driving on the wrong side, even after being fined. Furthermore, in the coming days, we will launch a 45-day drive to raise awareness about helmets in the city, after which strict implementation will take place.”

“We have received a request from the corporation regarding people who spit in public after eating pan or tobacco, so now the corporation will provide us with the images of such offenders, and we will fine them, take legal action, and file FIRs against such individuals. The SMC had requested legal action against people who litter in our clean city,” he further said.
