Banaskantha: The district police have booked Dalpatsinh Parmar and his three accomplices after he staged his own death to fraudulently claim life insurance totaling Rs 1.26 crore.
The case came to light after the police found charred remains of a car in Vadgam village on Friday, with human remains inside. The vehicle’s registration revealed it belonged to 40-year-old hotelier Parmar. Although his family identified the body as his, the police grew suspicious. Forensic tests later confirmed that the remains did not match the DNA of Parmar’s family members.
Upon investigation, the police learned that Parmar had taken out significant loans to build a hotel and was overwhelmed by debt. To escape his financial troubles, he devised a scheme to fake his death in a car accident, enabling his family to claim Rs 1 crore in accident insurance and Rs 23 lakh in life insurance. Parmar planned to remain hidden until the insurance payouts were received, with the help of his relatives, including his brother.
To execute the plan, Parmar, along with his three accomplices, exhumed a body buried in a local cremation ground. They placed the body in Parmar’s car and set it on fire. After learning that the body did not belong to Parmar, the police investigation led to the identification of the suspects in CCTV footage from the cremation ground, where they admitted to stealing the body and burning the car. Three of the accused have been arrested, and authorities are continuing their search for Parmar. DeshGujarat
