Rajkot: A 25-year-old man and his fiancée were assaulted and robbed, allegedly by one Mushtaq and three unidentified accomplices impersonating as policemen on New Year’s Eve. The accused also allegedly molested the woman after luring the couple to a secluded spot under the pretense of a vehicle inspection.
The incident occurred in the early hours of January 1 as the couple was returning home from a New Year’s party. Near Avadh Road, four men posing as police officers stopped their car, demanded the man’s Aadhaar card, and attacked him when he couldn’t provide it. They then forced the couple into their car and drove to a deserted location. At the spot, one of the accused called the woman’s family, demanding her Aadhaar card and valuables, while also allegedly molesting her.
Later, the woman’s family tracked her location using a mobile phone tracker app, and a relative rushed to AJ Chowk. In the meantime, overhearing a call from the man’s family, two of the assailants panicked, robbed him of ₹1,700, and fled.
The couple filed a complaint on Wednesday, and the police have registered a case against the accused, booking them for extortion, robbery, illegal detention, issuing death threats, impersonating police officers, and molestation.
The police have formed multiple teams to apprehend the accused, given the severity of the matter. DeshGujarat
