More population than Porbandar and Vapi, but Bharuch not declared as Municipal Corporation
January 02, 2025
Bharuch: Vapi and Porbandar had lesser population compared to Bharuch as per the last census which was conducted in 2011. Navsari had just a little more population compared to Bharuch in this census. However while Porbandar, Vapi and Navsari are declared as Municipal Corporations, Bharuch has not received such favor. According to the year 2011 census, Bharuch’s population was 1,69,007 while Vapi’s population was 1,63,630 and Porbandar’s population was 1,52,760. Navsari’s population was 1,71,109 as per that census. At present the population of Bharuch is estimated at 1.90 lakh around. The State government yesterday declared immediate implementation of its decision to convert 9 Municipalities across the State to Municipal Corporations by adding surrounding villages to their limits. However Bharuch feels left out due to lack of powerful local leadership and voice in the government. With inclusion of Zadeshwar, Nandelav, Kanthariya, Umraj, Bholav etc villages, Bharuch could also receive the status of Municipal Corporation. The town is presently governed by the local municipality. DeshGujarat
