Gujarat CM launches GIS/GPS-Based Tree Census and Mapping

Ahmedabad: During the inauguration of the Ahmedabad International Flower Show 2025, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also launched a GIS/GPS-based tree census and mapping initiative in Ahmedabad. The Amdavad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) Heritage and Recreational Committee has appointed a consultant to carry out the project, with a payment of Rs 7.89 per tree. The total cost of the project is expected to range between Rs 8 and 10 crore.

This census, held after 12 years, aims to assess the growth in the city’s green cover over the past decade. The 2012 tree count, which was the city’s first, recorded 618,000 trees, representing 4.66% green cover. At that time, Ahmedabad covered an area of 466 sq km, which has since expanded to 480.88 sq km. DeshGujarat
