Khel Mahakumbh 3.0 kicks off in Gujarat

Gandhinagar: Khel Mahakumbh 3.0 will commence today, with the opening ceremony to be held in Rajkot. Announcing the event, Sports Minister Harsh Sanghavi stated that it was first introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2010 when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Originally starting with around 13 lakh athletes, the event has since expanded, now attracting 71.3 lakh participants.

An official statement revealed that athletes across seven age categories, from under-9 to over-60, will compete in 39 disciplines. Cash prizes ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 5 lakh will be awarded to the top performers.

The state government has allocated a total of Rs 45 crore in cash prizes for the first, second, and third-place winners at the taluka, district, and state levels. The minister also mentioned that a special Khel Mahakumbh event has been organized for disabled athletes, providing them with the opportunity to showcase their skills in various categories.
