Thara Traders Oppose Inclusion of Kankrej Taluka in Vav – Tharad District
January 04, 2025
Thara: Traders and residents of Kankrej taluka in Thara staged a protest against the government’s decision to include their taluka in the newly formed Tharad district. They are demanding that Kankrej be kept within the Banaskantha district.
The protest began with a rally in which traders and residents marched through the streets of Thara, raising slogans against the decision. They submitted a memorandum to the Mamlatdar, expressing their opposition to the inclusion in Tharad district.
The protest intensified as businesses across Thara remained closed in a show of solidarity. Traders and shopkeepers voluntarily shut down their businesses to voice their dissent.
Thara Market Yard’s former chairman, Anadabhai Patel, wrote letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and state BJP president C.R. Patil, urging them to reconsider the decision and keep Kankrej taluka within Banaskantha.
The protesters believe that being part of Tharad district will create difficulties for their businesses and disrupt their livelihoods. They have warned of further protests if their demands are not met. DeshGujarat
