Ahmedabad: A sessions court in Ahmedabad on Monday denied anticipatory bail to Kartik Patel, chairman of Khyati Multispecialty Hospital, who was booked in November after the deaths of two PM-JAY beneficiaries who underwent ‘unnecessary’ angioplasty procedures.
Principal district judge K.M. Sojitra rejected Patel’s bail plea, noting that the hospital had processed 3,578 claims under the PM-JAY scheme, generating Rs 16.64 crore. The court highlighted the serious nature of the offense, which involved both a violation of humanitarian principles and the illegal extraction of funds from the PM-JAY scheme.
Patel’s counsel argued that Patel was not involved in the hospital’s daily operations and was not in India when the two patients died following surgery. The decision to perform the surgeries was made by the doctors. DeshGujarat
