Ahmedabad: The city crime branch police on Monday arrested three individuals for targeting elderly women and stealing their gold jewelry while posing as fellow passengers in shared autorickshaws. The stolen items recovered include nine gold bangles and a gold chain, collectively valued at Rs 8.14 lakh.
The suspects, identified as Salman Pathan (23), Vikram Dantani (27), and Asha Devipujak (36), all residents of Mehmedabad in Kheda district, were apprehended based on a tip-off. Pathan, who drove the autorickshaw, collaborated with Dantani and Devipujak, who posed as passengers. The group operated during morning hours, picking up elderly women and then stealing.
Investigations revealed that the group evaded CCTV surveillance by removing the vehicle’s registration plate. Of the nine thefts recorded, one occurred in Maninagar, while the remaining eight took place in western Ahmedabad areas, including Naranpura, Ghatlodia, and Vejalpur. DeshGujarat
