ACB Gujarat nabs police constable in Rs. 1.5 lakh bribe case

Anand: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Gujarat has arrested Roshankumar Vankar, an unarmed police constable from Kambhat Rural Police Station, for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs. 1.5 lakh in connection with a Prohibition case.

According to the ACB, the complainant’s friend was booked in a Prohibition case, and the accused, a Class-3 constable, introduced himself as the writer for the investigating officer (Sub-Inspector). He then demanded a bribe of Rs. 2,00,000 to avoid any issues in the case. After negotiations, the amount was reduced to Rs. 1,20,000. However, the accused later demanded an additional Rs. 30,000, bringing the total to Rs. 1,50,000.

Unwilling to comply with the demand, the complainant contacted the ACB’s toll-free helpline and filed a complaint at the ACB Anand Police Station. Acting on the complaint, ACB officials organized a trap operation on Thursday. During the operation, the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe after engaging in a purposeful conversation with the complainant. The accused has been arrested, and further investigation is underway. DeshGujarat
