Gujarat HC rejects PIL against the flyover bridge at Panjrapole crossroads

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court on Friday, January 17, dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Ahmedabad residents challenging the construction of a bridge at Panjrapole crossroads over Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Marg (IIM Road), citing concerns about the potential reduction in the city’s green cover.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and Justice Pranav Trivedi stated, “The instant Public Interest Litigation is dismissed.” The PIL, filed by 20 residents, objected to the 652-meter-long bridge project, with a detailed copy of the order yet to be issued.

The petition raised concerns over the contract awarded to Ranjit Construction Company, pointing to its alleged poor track record, including irregularities in projects such as the Sabarmati Riverfront and a bridge widening project in Surat, which reportedly collapsed during construction. DeshGujarat
