Constable among six booked in Ahmedabad for TMT steel bar theft

Ahmedabad: Vejalpur Police have arrested a police constable from the DCP Zone-2 police in connection with the theft of Thermo Mechanically Treated (TMT) steel bars. The police recovered four tonnes of stolen TMT steel bars worth ₹2.5 lakh and have filed a case against six individuals.

The theft was uncovered when Imran Manapara, a manager at a TMT steel bar company near Sarkhej police station, received a tip-off on Saturday night about a batch of their TMT steel bars being abandoned near Aehsan Park, Juhapura. Manapara and his team set up surveillance at the site and saw three pickup vans loading the stolen material. A car arrived with a young man, who was apprehended with police assistance. The suspect was identified as Mustafa Khan Malek, a constable from the DCP Zone-2 staff of Ahmedabad police.

During questioning, Malek confessed to purchasing the stolen steel bars from a driver in Kutch for ₹2 lakh. Vejalpur police have filed a case and are continuing their investigation.
