Ahmedabad to purchase tallest High-Reach Hydraulic Platform in India for its fire brigade

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has approved purchase of a state-of-the-art 104-meter high-reach hydraulic platform (snorkel) for its fire department. This is the first such vehicle to be purchased by any municipal corporation in India.

The acquisition comes at a time when Ahmedabad is witnessing a rapid increase in the number of high-rise buildings, including residential, commercial, and mixed-use structures. With many buildings exceeding 100 meters in height, the need for specialized equipment to reach trapped occupants and fight fires at such elevations has become critical.

The newly acquired snorkel will significantly enhance the fire department’s capabilities to respond to emergencies in high-rise buildings. Its 104-meter reach will allow firefighters to access even the top floors of the tallest structures in the city. The vehicle is equipped with advanced features such as a hydraulic platform, water cannons, and rescue baskets, making it a valuable asset in firefighting and rescue operations.

The total cost of the snorkel is approximately ₹449.5 million. It is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of residents and property in Ahmedabad’s rapidly growing cityscape. DeshGujarat
