NRI woman rescued from outer AC unit after fire erupts in 6th-floor apartment in Surat

Surat: A young NRI woman was left stranded on an AC unit outside the window after a fire broke out in a flat on the sixth floor of Priya Apartments in the Nanpura area of the city. She was rescued by the fire department.

The incident occurred this morning around 11:30 AM when a short circuit in the washing machine led to an explosion. The fire escalated after coming in contact with wooden cupboards and stacked sheets near the washing machine, causing the flat to fill with smoke. During that time, 22-year-old Ahmatullah Muqadam, a non-resident Indian woman from London, was in the flat. Seeing the flat engulfed in fire and smoke, Ahmat climbed out of the window and became stranded on the outer unit of the air conditioner.

As soon as locals informed the fire department, 5-6 fire tenders, along with a hydraulic vehicle and a TTL machine, arrived at the spot. Given the high smoke in the flat, one officer and four fire personnel wore oxygen masks. They first rescued the young woman and brought her down safely. The woman was then rushed to a nearby primary hospital, and the fire was extinguished after 45 minutes of effort. DeshGujarat
