Gujarat High Court Advocates’ Association passes resolution seeking transfer of Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal
February 17, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court Advocates’ Association (GHCAA) today passed a resolution seeking the transfer of Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal to another High Court.
This comes after a series of controversies at the High Court, including open disagreements between Chief Justice Agarwal and senior lawyers. Another controversy arose when Chief Justice Agarwal changed the roster of a judge who had flagged concerns about the conduct of a judicial officer in the court registry. This move prompted Senior Counsel Asim Pandya to demand that the GHCAA address the sudden changes in the roster, including those of another judge.
In light of these events, the GHCAA general body held a meeting today where a unanimous resolution was passed calling for the Chief Justice’s transfer.
As per the resolution of GHAA, “The House further resolves to take appropriate steps, including seeking the transfer of the Hon’ble Chief Justice within the framework of law, to ensure that the faith of litigants and the public in the judiciary is restored and that such practices do not recur in the future.” DeshGujarat
