MSU former VC not vacating official bungalow, meddling into new VC’s selection; Vadodara MP writes letter

Vadodara: One questionable appointment by the government, and controversies are not stopping at Vadodara’s heart-like prestigious Maharaja Sayajirao University (MS University). Tainted former Vice Chancellor Vijay Srivastava whose appointment was challenged by a senior professor in the High Court and who resigned just before his end of term has not vacated the official bungalow of the Vice Chancellor of MSU yet. Now the local Lok Sabha member has intervened and asked Srivastava to vacate the bungalow.

Dr. Hemang Joshi, a local Lok Sabha MP has in a letter to Srivastava stated:

Request to vacate the premises of the MS University of Baroda and avoid unwanted influence in selection of new Vice Chancellor

Dear Sir

It is with very deep sorrow and dissatisfaction I am bringing this to your notice that earlier you have not respected the Gujarat Government by furnishing the true documents and applying even after knowing the fact that you are not eligible for the post of Vice Chancellor.

Please understand The M S University is not only an ordinary university but the place which is very supreme in the heart of every Barodian and a prestigious institution of India. I don’t want to go in details about how you have ruined its pride and prestige in this mail.

I just request you to please vacate the Dhanvtanri Bungalow at the earliest as you are already unfairly occupying it since February. As a public representative, I am ready to offer you alternative accommodation but your illegal occupation of VC Bungalow is keeping the whole University administration on stall. I think you now should understand this with all dignity.

Also copying this mail to Honourable CM Sir and Honourable Education Minister Sir for their notice as I feel the are not knowing the gravity of this act.

Thank You

Dr. Hemang Joshi

It’s worth noting here that there’s common feeling in Vadodara that their loved campus with lot of prestige and memories attached to it was ruined by a wrongly appointed  Vice Chancellor who was not even eligible for his post but enjoyed nearly full term. MSU which has around 50,000 students lost its shine during Srivastava’s tenure. The university couldn’t find its place even in top 100 universities of India. Always running away from the media and the students leaders, Srivastava was the Vice Chancellor who approached police for actions against students, so what if they agitated for some reason! Due to Srivastava’s lack of action or no action, the convocation function couldn’t take place for over three months last year. A student had to approach the court to get degree certificate so that she could go for further study. Thanks to city MP, the convocation function’s date could be decided eventually. MSU for one or other reason stayed in news for wrong reasons during Srivastava’s term. A senior Professor Pathak has demanded probe into foreign travels , bungalow renovation and other expenses made by Srivastava during his tenure. Pathak has also demanded recovery of money from Srivastava and fraud case against Srivastava for becoming the Vice Chancellor unfairly by producing fake documents. There’s a buzz that the state government including the Education minister is believed soft on Srivastava and protecting him for some unknown reasons since long. DeshGujarat
