March 14, 2025
Gandhinagar: Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) is working on a plan to make several metro stations operational on the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar route, which is expected to increase passenger footfall. This expansion, set to take place in the next two to three months, aims to improve connectivity and frequency.
The Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro Yellow Line has 21 stations, of which seven are currently operational. Authorities now plan to open seven more stations within the next three months and an additional seven by the end of 2025.
Earlier this week, minister Rushikesh Patel informed the state Assembly that Phase 2 of the metro project would be completed by June.
According to reports, GMRC officials are working to open Koteshwar Road, Vishwakarma College, Tapovan Circle, Narmada Canal, Koba Circle, Sector 10-A, and Sachivalaya within the next three months, while Mahatma Mandir Station is expected to be operational by the end of the year to accommodate the growing number of daily commuters.
Train frequency is also likely to increase. At present, each metro trip can seat 150 passengers, but including standing capacity, it can accommodate up to 800 passengers. Recent data indicates that 2,200 to 2,500 passengers use the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar metro daily, with numbers expected to rise further. Over the past year, the number of metro trips has increased from eight to 14.
With ongoing infrastructure development along the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar corridor, passenger numbers on this route are expected to surge significantly. DeshGujarat
